What is Peripheral Neuropathy?

Peripheral neuropathy is a condition in which the nerves in our extremities (arms and legs) have been damaged. Peripheral nerves carry more than just pain messages. Some nerve fibers carry information about temperature and pressure. This is why a neuropathy sufferer may have burning, freezing, or throbbing sensations. They often find it difficult to walk, use stairs, and maintain their balance; falling is a serious risk. Many are miserable because the chronic symptoms cause them to loose sleep, and rob them of their quality of life.

Peripheral neuropathy is a frustrating, life impairing condition that is often overlooked until it’s too late to treat effectively. Common medical treatment consists of drug prescriptions. Unfortunately, these medications affect all nerves, not just the ones affected by neuropathy, and they only mask the symptoms. Fortunately, recent advances in treatment are offering relief for many peripheral neuropathy suffers. Contact Olympic Spine & Sound Pain Solutions to learn more!

Nerve Damage

The symptoms of peripheral neuropathy are caused by nerve damage.

“ No more burning and throbbing in my feet! ”

“When my symptoms were at their very worst, I couldn’t feel where my feet were on the ground, so I always had to look down to see where they were. I saw an ad on KIRO for Olympic Spine and Sports Therapy. I was specifically interested in peripheral neuropathy. Within the first month, I started noticing changes. No more burning and throbbing in my feet. I was able to reduce pain medication for leg spasms. I feel good, more alert and alive. I’m able to respond to my environment better! My household chores and gardening are easier. I travel from Bainbridge Island to get to Olympic Spine; it’s a big deal for me to get on and off the very busy ferry terminal. I’ve even been able to help care for someone else.”

– Donna S., Bainbridge Island

“Gradually, the symptoms in my feet got progressively worse”

“For over the past ten years, I’ve experienced pain and numbness in my feet. Gradually, the symptoms in my feet got progressively worse. I was waking up 5-6 times a night and was only getting a few hours of sleep.”

“I searched the internet and came across the Olympic Spine and Sports Therapy website and took the neuropathy quiz. A couple of weeks into treatment I noticed that I wasn’t waking up as frequently overnight and felt rested. Even my balance and confidence on my feet improved! The staff at Olympic Spine is a great group of people. There is not one person that I couldn’t have a lasting friendship with. I am really happy with the results of the combined therapy of chiropractic adjustments, non-surgical spinal decompression, peripheral neuropathy and physical rehabilitative therapy.”

– Gregg K., Bothell

“Now I’ve reached 75% overall improvement in my condition!"

“I was having a lot of numbness and tingling in my feet and hands. They felt like stumps when I tried to play golf and racquetball. My coordination and balance deteriorated to the point where I quit playing and just sat at home in my chair, depressed and discouraged. I saw a neurologist who said I had Peripheral Neuropathy due to my diabetes. He prescribed me medication but it didn’t help me very much. I learned about Dr Shelley and Olympic Spine and Sports Therapy online, and started treatment shortly after. It took about 6 weeks before I saw significant results, but it worked!”

“Now I’ve reached 75% overall improvement in my condition! I am walking and standing for longer periods of time, doing yard work without pain or fatigue. I have even started playing golf and racquetball again!”

– Norm K, Everett

“While finding relief with my peripheral neuropathy, I was also able to find improvement in my posture.”

“For the past 3-4 years I have had pain in my feet while walking. At night my feet felt very hot. It was so weird! I could not comfortably walk in my work shoes. Once coming to Olympic, it took only 3 weeks to find relief. My feet feel more supple, and I can feel them at night without burning. I can walk around far more comfortably and sleep much better. The treatment at Olympic was very thorough and more varied than what I had seen before. While finding relief with my peripheral neuropathy, I was also able to find improvement in my posture. The team at Olympic helped me realize I need to be more conscious of my posture throughout the day. I now stand up straighter and can walk without pain!”

– Jeff L., Mukilteo

“We went to Disneyland; and every day, I was able to walk 20,000-25,000 steps a day!”

“Three months ago, I had given up on thinking that I could do the things I love. My body hurt, and I felt a lot older than I am. I wasn’t as active with my family. I even avoided walking my dog because of the pain in my feet and back. Today, I am on the road back to recovery and being more active.  I’m participating with my family and friends more. We went to Disneyland; and every day, I was able to walk 20,000-25,000 steps a day! Not only are my feet and back better, my brain is better, too!”
