Why Does Pain Happen Without an Obvious Injury?

Many people are surprised when pain shows up without a clear cause. You didn’t fall, you didn’t lift anything heavy, and yet your back, neck, or joints hurt. This is more common than you might think. Research shows that a large percentage of musculoskeletal pain is “non-specific,” meaning it can’t be traced to a single injury or structural problem.

Instead, it often develops from everyday factors like poor posture, repetitive movements, or even changes in how the nervous system processes pain. Ignoring this type of pain can lead to chronic discomfort, reduced quality of life, and can lead to irreversible damage. That’s why clinical guidelines recommend starting with conservative, non-invasive care before turning to medications or surgery.

At Olympic Spine & Sports Therapy we have a comprehensive treatment approach to help you get more complete relief faster. That is why we offer treatments like non-surgical decompression, advanced non-invasive laser, bioelectric therapy, and pressure wave treatment in addition to adjustments. Also, we offer treatment and training to correct the underlying cause of the symptoms. When your symptoms have subsided, we can provide treatment and exercise instruction to correct posture, restore flexibility, balance, and strength. Addressing these underlying issues is key to getting lasting results.

If you’re experiencing pain without a clear injury, don’t wait for it to get worse. At Olympic we offer a safe, evidence-based approach to help you feel better, move better, and prevent future problems.

"innovative way of addressing pain is life changing"

I had injured my back numerous times in my special inspection roll as well as injuries rock climbing. Hospitals and doctors did not help, just made it worse. After my first session with Dr Shelley I got relief. His innovative way of addressing pain is life changing and works with the body to recover and stay well. If you want true results, this is the place to try. I really appreciate the road to recovery and ability to function without pain!

Health Tip of the Month
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas

by Sophia Alfred, LMT, CPT

With the holiday season fast approaching, some of the best culinary treats (and the most irresistible!) can bring along an unwanted guest: the Grinch who stole Christmas—inflammation.

Glucose from sugar and refined carbohydrates can elevate blood sugar, causing spikes in inflammation. Alcohol can also have a systemic inflammatory effect on the tissues of the body.

While inflammation is the body’s natural healing response, chronic inflammation can trigger a variety of issues, including joint pain, stress on the gut microbiome, increased dermatitis or eczema flare-ups, peripheral neuropathy symptoms, and even migraines. And this is not an exhaustive list. When sugar and alcohol combine, these symptoms can be amplified even further.

To help keep inflammation in check during the holiday festivities, here are a few simple
recommendations:

  1. Enjoy desserts and alcohol in light to moderate amounts.
  2. Stay hydrated.
  3. Take a balanced approach to meals—aim for plenty of protein and fiber to help slow
    blood sugar spikes.

Another key element in staying ahead of inflammation is consistency—especially with the exercises prescribed by the team at Olympic Spine & Sound Pain Solutions. Your home-care exercises help stabilize joints, support circulation, and regulate inflammation at a foundational level.

Just as important is maintaining your usual frequency of treatment. Our in-office anti-inflammatory therapies work best when delivered consistently, helping your body recover, regulate inflammation, and stay resilient during a season full of dietary and lifestyle stressors.

By staying mindful of your choices—and staying consistent with your treatment plan—you can enjoy the holiday season without letting inflammation steal the show. Wishing you a happy, healthy holiday from all of us at Olympic Spine & Sound Pain Solutions.
