Trigenics Information for Patients
Trigenics is a cutting-edge muscular and neurological treatment that delivers immediate results to patients suffering from physical pain syndromes and movement dysfunctions. In addition to those seeking recovery, Trigenics is also used by athletes as an effective form of strength training and conditioning.
The effectiveness of Trigenics is due to two things:
- Its unique combination of three separate therapies into a single treatment. By unifying several powerful therapies into a single solution, Trigenics delivers better results faster.
- The special cooperation between patient and doctor. Unlike traditional one-sided therapies, Trigenics puts the patient’s own desire to recover to work. By engaging in voluntary movements and breathing exercises, a patient can drastically improve the results of their treatment.
Based on the principles of reflexogenic neurophysiology, Trigenics combines the best physical therapies, the doctor’s expertise, and uses these to help a patient’s own body begin to heal itself.
What is Trigenics?
Trigenics is what’s called a “multimodal” treatment. What this means is that we take the best of a variety of treatment practices and combines them into a single therapy. This contributes to Trigenics’ high success rate. Instead of delivering one therapy, we offer the best of many physical and neurological therapies, which enable us to deliver significantly improved results.
Trigenics uses advanced procedures to temporarily alter the way your brain and body communicate movement and pain to each other. This allows Dr. Shelley to use a variety of techniques, including exercise equipment and instruments, to deliver instant results that you’ll be able to enjoy as soon as the treatment session concludes.
How Do Trigenics Treatments Work?
What makes Trigenics so special is its ability to work with tissue on a deeper level than traditional hands-only practices, like Trigger Point Therapy, Shiatsu, Massage, etc. Since this is both a chiropractic and neurological treatment, we are able to effectively block the pain signals being sent to your brain. This enables Dr. Shelley to work deeper on your body, without eliciting the usual strong reflexes and pain of other therapies.
Another one of the major advantages of choosing Trigenics treatments is the instantaneous nature of the results. No matter how long you’ve suffered from your condition, how many chiropractors you’ve already seen, you will see striking and measurable results after your very first Trigenics session.
In addition to helping victims of frozen shoulder and other physical pain syndromes and movement dysfunctions, Dr. Shelley also uses Trigenics to help athletes and other strength trainers achieve accelerated muscle growth and strength (free of drugs).
The Science Behind Trigenics Treatments
Your brain is a computer that communicates with the rest of the body by sending electrical signals through your body, via your neurons. It’s these electrical signals that tell your body when and how to move. Your muscles and pain receptors also send signals back to the brain.
Now, if you suffer an injury, stress, or other damaging event, this can interrupt or corrupt the electric signals being communicated between your body and brain. This is called neurological inhibition, or, NI.
You may not notice NI immediately after an injury or stress, but will start to become aware of it as the improper electric signals begin resulting in pain and inhibited movement. These symptoms are the result of a state of neurological dysfunction, leading to abnormal muscle pull patterns and weak limbs — both of which result in a limited range of motion and imbalances throughout the body (which, if left untreated, can be career-ending for athletes).
Fortunately, multiple case studies and clinical evidence indicates that, with successive treatments, Trigenics can be used to heal damaged neurological pathways and restore movement and function to the body. These results are cumulative, sustained, and augmentative.
Beyond restoration, Dr. Shelley uses Trigenics to help athletes and strength trainers improve fitness, exercise, and self-care.
Due to Trigenics track record of effective and lasting results and this treatment’s ability to succeed where most other therapies fail, we at Olympic Spine & Sports Therapy consider this to be one of the most advanced functional restoration treatments in the world.
Who Should Take Advantage of Trigenics?
We prescribe Trigenics myoneural exercises for a wide range of patients, including those struggling from limited ranges of motion as well as athletes. Each treatment schedule is customized to meet the unique needs of the patient.
If you are looking for neurokinetic retraining, imbalanced pull pattern correction, or full-body comprehensive muscular activity assessments, then Trigenics may be the treatment you’ve been looking for.
Dr. Shelley also offers Trigenics to athletes looking for muscle stimulation and strength training during training or before/after competition. Trigenics sessions result imeasurable increases in flexibility, strength, and agility, making this an excellent treatment to receive prior to competition.
The Trigenics Treatment Process
As described earlier, the effectiveness of Trigenics is due to how it combines multiple therapies techniques into a single treatment. The three techniques that are merged for Trigenics include:
- Resistive exercise neurology
- Muscle nerve-sensory stimulation
- Biofeedback breathing
While each of these may see moderate results on its own, when united, the results are immediate and effective.
During each Trigenics treatment session, Dr. Shelley uses specialized tools to apply treatment to the muscle nerve-sensors, while the patient practices breathing exercises and makes resisted movements. Throughout the session, Dr. Shelley will be identifying abnormal muscle signaling patterns and using unique testing techniques and therapies to help the patient overcome and heal these limitations.
As you can see, the effectiveness of Trigenics is reliant on the cooperation and coordination of doctor and patient working together towards restoration.
The History of Trigenics
Trigenics was the first treatment in the world to combine resisted exercise with muscle treatment. This concept was developed in the 1980s by decorated Canadian-Estonian Chiropractor and Osteopath, Dr. Allan Oolo Austin (DO, DC, MND, CCSP, CCRD, RTCMP, CFIS, PhD). An expert in trigger point therapy, Dr. Oolo Austin realized that by combining this therapy with patient movement and breathing techniques he could significantly improve treatment results.
Another breakthrough was made in the early 1990s, when Dr. Oolo Austin discovered that by simultaneously applying a unique combination of neuromuscular treatments he could dramatically increase the neuro-musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions of his patients. These results were better, lasted longer, and delivered increased strength and range of motion. This new combination of techniques also helped him reduce the pain caused by neurological inhibition.
By putting his 1980s and 1990s breakthroughs together, Dr. Oolo Austin had created “Trigenics” a name he chose as it references the three techniques it combines (i.e. resistive exercise neurology, muscle nerve-sensory stimulation, and biofeedback breathing).
In 1994, Dr. Oolo Austin unveiled a refined Trigenics process. This streamlined treatment used multi-modal procedures to test neurological muscle communication, detect the cause of a patient’s neuromusculoskeletal conditions (finding exactly where the disruption in electrical signals was occurring), and treat the condition.
Since then, Trigenics has expanded to over 25 countries and been taught to over 2,000 practitioners (now Registered Trigenics Practitioners), including our very own, Dr. Shelley.
