Don’t Believe These Common Misconceptions About Neck Pain

In today’s day and age, neck pain is a common ailment that many people suffer from – especially those of us who spend a lot of time in office settings and sitting at computers! Here at your trusted Edmonds, WA chiropractor, we see a lot of people who suffer from neck and shoulder discomfort due to this.

If you suffer from neck and back pain, it’s likely that you’ve heard a lot of advice – some of it good and some of it totally misleading.

Today we’re going to cover a few common misconceptions concerning neck and back pain.

  • You can get a massage to help with ease discomfort. A massage can help alleviate SOME muscle strains and pain. However, if you find yourself feeling numbness in the arms and hands, you should consult with a doctor to make sure you aren’t suffering from cervical radiculopathy.
  • If you have pain in your joints, it’s because you have bony spurs. Bony spurs is actually just a sign of degenerative changes in the bony structures of the spine and this is normal. While “spurs” can cause irritation, it isn’t the cause of your discomfort.
  • The cause of your discomfort is likely due to a “subluxation” in your cervical spine. While this is often mentioned as a potential cause of neck pain, there is actually no medical ground to back this claim up.
